Spirit of individuality

Sometimes it happens that what you are thinking about something turns out to be absolutely opposite. My point of view was different before coming here. I think as i have been meeting people here that the most important aspect is the spirit of individuality and it is also linked with various other aspects for instance freedom of speech and thought and balancing between their work and families.
Everybody have the opportunity and access to liberty and at the same time Americans know how to maintain the balance of the liberty they have been given.
I have also notice the notion of self reliance and hard work infact Americans wants to work hard in order to achieve the recquired status and they believe on working hard rather than luck or fortune.

  1. I'd like to emphasize the spirit of tolerance that I've witnessed in the civic project I attended in the soup kitchen one day in Corvallis Oregon. The venue was the church restaurant, the crown was a mix of all colors and ethnicities. All are welcome to the soup kitchen sumptuous brunch. I was amazed and proud to be a participant of such a pro bono project. But this hasn't been achieved over night, the fine lady who was in charge told me with a kind grin on her face, it took us 30 years to make it happen. Despite the difficulties and lack of resources, we strifed and consolidated efforts of individuals, business and church to keep it going. Now instead of a weekly event, we can now provide the homeless, disables and unemployed a decent meal daily. I was serving fruit smmothies that I helped prepare earlier. Next to me stood a veteran of the Vietnam war serving doughnuts and cookies. He was encouraging the shy guests to eat more and I asked him, do you come to church here every week. The answer he gave me mesmerized me ! He said, oh no I'm not a church goer ! He was helping out for the sake of goodness, he helped those mixed guests for no apparent religious reasons. He set an example of devotion and tolerance that I find hard to believe. but hey, only in America, only in America !
